This Throwback Thursday revisits the classic film adaptation of the 1974 broadway musical of the same name, reimagining the classic book The Wizard of Oz. The Wiz was released in 1978 but was originally poorly received even with star turns from Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Nipsey Russell, Richard Pryor and musical assistance by Quincy Jones.

Despite the poor initial reception, the movie has become a cult classic especially because it features Michael Jackson in his first starring theatrical film role.
